Shaving Cream Art

In the spirit of trying to be more creative, I've been searching the internet for art projects we would all enjoy doing together.  I came across the idea of shaving cream art.  I had never heard of such a thing so I googled it.  I must be living under a rock!  I think everyone knows about it!

First, spray a layer of shaving cream onto some sort of containable surface.  We used cookie sheets since they have a lip around the sides.  Disposable aluminum baking trays are a good option, too.

Some used more shaving cream than others :)

Take a flat object...spatula, knife, piece of cardboard or plastic and flatten the foam down so you have an even surface.

Then add drops of food coloring

Next, take a toothpick and use it to swirl the color around.  Don't push all the way down...you want to keep the dye close to the top.

 

Press a piece of  paper onto to surface so it soaks up the color and then peel it off.  We used white card stock.

We put our papers outside for a while to dry.

They spent a good chunk of time playing with the foam and mixing colors.

Then we took paper towels and wiped the shaving cream off the papers.

We really enjoyed this!  It's super simple, lots of fun and a very inexpensive project.  Plus, we think the results are pretty cool :)  I definitely want to try it again (maybe tomorrow) so I can mix the colors together better to give it more of a marbled effect.

This week

(Which was actually last week!)

One of Britney's Christmas presents was art classes at Shop Around the Corner for a month.  She had her first class on Tuesday.  She enjoyed it very much, but at the same time she isn't accustomed to someone telling her how to do things...especially something like art.  But like I told her, that's the point of the class.  It's offering her a different perspective and new ways of doing things.  She's anxious for her next class!

During her class, Cody and I went to BooksAMillion.  We spent a good chunk of time in their LEGO section.  He was very interested in getting THIS book, which is funny because I was just looking at it online the other night.  He didn't get it because he wanted something else more, but we checked an old gift card and there's enough on there for him to buy it.  I imagine he will next time we're there.

On Thursday night, Britney went to audition for Father of the Bride.  This is with the same theatre group that she did Little Women with.  She's VERY excited about this one.  I'll update when they post the cast list!

Brit spent the night with Emily on Thursday night.  Em had originally invited her for Friday night, but Bobby and I had dinner plans.  Those plans were cancelled because of illness so she ended up spending Friday night as well.  Chan was there Friday night as well...HAPPY GIRLS :)

Today, I met the Crawfords (who brought Brit with them) and KT and her family to hike over at the refuge.  I guess it's actually called walking since it's flat, but walking doesn't sound as good....so hiking it is!  We did 5.32 miles so that's better than nothing!  I'd like to go again tomorrow with Bobby while we are having these 65*- 70* days but it's suppose be storming and rainy all day.  Then it's going to get cold again.  I hate winter in Alabama.  I can't handle the back and forth.  If it's 70 degrees one day, it shouldn't be 37 the next.  The end.

The Beast, Flint Creek Trail, AC, Art, Sunset

We finally got a chance to sleep in a little later this morning. We've had to be up and going pretty early every day this week. Theron's not home yet from his cruise so we're still letting Patton out twice a day. So between that, insurance issues, rental car, appointments, etc...we've been busy in the mornings.

At 11:30 we got the phone call that The Beast was ready! We weren't expecting it to be ready until Tuesday. We finished getting ready, ran a couple errands, picked up The Beast, dropped off the pretty, red, HORRIBLE gas mileage car (seriously...it got 11.4 mpg) went to pick up Britney, who had spent the night with Cathy and Kaitlin, came home to eat lunch and then went to find something to do outside. I've been in a funk lately, and being outside with my camera usually makes me feel better.

We ended up at Flint Creek Trail. I wanted to go to the refuge, but they were shutting the gate when we pulled up. Oops!

We came home to a VERY hot house. I had noticed how hot it was before we left, but when we got back, it was HOT. There was air blowing out of the vent, but it wasn't cold. Bobby checked the unit and it seemed that the fan motor was the culprit. Bobby decided to put it back together and when he did, it started working. I suppose that means there's a short in the wiring, but I'm so very thankful it's working now. I nearly cried. The whole thing was quite emotional.

Britney wanted to go to Hobby Lobby and pick up some art supplies with the gift cards she's gotten. She said she's in a very artsy mood! She was able to pick up 2 2 pack canvases, 9 tubes of paint and 2 packages of paintbrushes...and still has almost $12 on that particular card. The paints and brushes were on sale and we used a 40% off one item coupon for the canvase.
We dropped Bobby and Cody off at the house (He wanted to make sure nothing was going on with the AC) and Brit and I went to Walmart so she could look at a few things. Plus I needed to pick up some groceries. She bought herself an Alabama hat and t-shirt. Both look really great on her! When we walked out of the store, we got an amazing treat. The sunset was extraordinary!


When we got home, Bobby and Cody were watching the new Thundercats show:) We ate dinner, watched a little TV and now I'm ready to crash.
